Many people entrenched in sexual sin are blinded by the notion that they are too far gone to turn back. They’ve had many partners, and the idea of changing their lifestyle seems pointless. The question often arises: “What’s the point, anyway? I’m not a virgin anymore!” Virginity is a beautiful virtue, but it is not a prerequisite for practicing chastity.
Some might feel disqualified because they’ve given birth outside of marriage. Society may deem chastity “stupid” in their case with narratives like, “What’s there to guard now? You’ve already had a child.” These are lies from the enemy. Childbirth is not a hindrance to chastity.
The truth about chastity
The reality is that sexual sin defiles us and goes against God’s will. It soils God’s temple—our bodies. Perhaps your past was shaped by ignorance, disobedience, fear of missing out, lust, peer pressure, or other influences. But now that you know fornication, adultery, masturbation, homosexuality, and all forms of sexual perversion are sins, it’s time to turn over a new leaf and obey God’s commandments.
God’s call is for everyone
God calls us at different points in our lives. You may have had children with multiple partners, but the Lord still desires for you to live in sexual purity. No one is beyond His reach. Whether you’ve lost your virginity or not, you can practice chastity. Why? Because at the core of chastity is obedience to the will of God.
1 Thessalonians 4:3 reminds us:
"This is the will of God, your holiness: that you refrain from immorality."
You can’t claim to love God without doing His will. As John 14:15 says:
"If you love me, you will keep my commandments."
A fresh start in Christ
Your past sexual life is not an obstacle to seeking God’s will. No excuse will suffice when faced with His truth. Seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and diligently pursue God. His grace is sufficient for you, offering you a chance to begin anew.
By choosing chastity, you honour God and align your life with His purpose. Let go of past mistakes, embrace His forgiveness, and walk in the light of His love.
