Although that’s not always the case, as you can refrain from sexual activities for a time and return to the same.

The difference? Abstinence focuses more on the external action of not engaging in sex, while chastity is about the internal transformation that is reflected in your thoughts, behaviours, and actions. You can abstain from sexual activity without necessarily growing in chastity.

Celibacy: A state of life
